Morning: Departure from Mombasa
7:00 AM - Depart from Mombasa: Your day begins with an early morning departure from Mombasa. Our driver guide will pick you up at your hotel/residence in Mombasa/Diani.
8:30 AM - Arrival at Shimba Hills: Arrive at Shimba Hills National Reserve, our driver guide will help you to register at the park gate. You need to bring your passport. Be greeted by the serene beauty of the lush rainforest and the anticipation of what lies ahead.
Nature Walk and Wildlife Encounter
9:00 AM - Guided Nature Walk: Embark on a guided nature walk with an experienced ranger. The forested trails are perfect for spotting wildlife and birdwatching. Listen to the symphony of birdcalls and the rustle of leaves as you explore the dense vegetation.
10:00 AM - Sheldrick Falls: Reach the stunning Sheldrick Falls, a hidden gem within the reserve. Take a refreshing break by the waterfall, perhaps even enjoying a swim in the natural pool beneath the cascading waters.
Midday: Lunch
12:30 PM - Lunch: You will leave the park as you do a short game drive en route to Shimba Hills Green Lodge where you will have lunch and maybe have a swim at the magnificent infinity pool with great views.
Sunset and Departure
5:00 PM - Sunset Viewpoint: As the day draws to a close, witness a mesmerizing African sunset from the infinity pool that overlooks the Mwaluganje Sanctuary. The panoramic views over the Shimba Hills are a photographer's dream.
6:00 PM - Return to Mombasa: Begin your journey back to Mombasa, reflecting on the incredible experiences and memories you've collected during your Shimba Hills adventure.
Things to Do and Expect at Shimba Hills Adventure
Shimba Hills National Reserve offers a diverse range of activities and experiences for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. Here's what you can do and expect during your visit to this captivating natural haven:
1. Guided Nature Walks:
Expect to embark on guided nature walks through the lush rainforest trails of Shimba Hills.
Do look forward to an immersive experience where you'll encounter a variety of flora and fauna, including rare plants, butterflies, and numerous bird species.
2. Wildlife Viewing:
Anticipate wildlife encounters, with a chance to spot elephants, sable antelopes, buffaloes, leopards, and other indigenous animals(chances of seeing wild animals might be limited).
Do carry binoculars and a camera with a telephoto lens for capturing the wildlife in their natural habitat. However, note that this park does not give a full wildlife experience like Tsavo East National Park as animals are very few in number.
3. Sheldrick Falls Excursion:
Expect to visit the picturesque Sheldrick Falls, where you can enjoy a refreshing break by the waterfall.
Do bring comfortable hiking shoes, as there might be a 2.5km trek to reach the falls and another from the falls.
4. Scenic Sunset Views:
Anticipate breathtaking sunset views from the Shimba Hills Green Lodge infinity pool.
Do bring your camera to capture the mesmerizing African sunset over the Shimba Hills.
5. Tranquil and Scenic Environment:
Expect a tranquil and serene environment, ideal for relaxation and rejuvenation amidst nature's beauty.
Do savor moments of tranquility and take in the calming ambiance of the forest.
